MMSC Snowboard weekend #2

As you all know the temp's have begun to cooperate with us and snow making has begun again. Stowe Mountain Resort is working tirelessly to expand terrain. Now if mother nature would help out with some natural, we will be in good shape.

For this coming, weekend terrain will still be limited. However we will still meet for a full day. The the Spruce base day lodge will be the meeting area for this weekend. The day lodge is the temporary lodge in the parking lot of Spruce camp.

Our day will begin at 8:30. Each group will start with a warm up.

Our morning session will be held from 9-12:15

We will meet for lunch back at the Spruce day lodge. 12:15-12:30

We once again will do a small warm up and return to snow for the afternoon.

The Afternoon will run from 12:45- 2:45.

All riders can be picked up at Spruce day lodge. Unless other prior arrangements have been made.

Please let the coach that your rider will be with know if there will be any changes to the normal schedule.

Also a reminder! MMSC's Annual meeting is this Saturday from 1-2:30 in the club house.
This is a very important meeting. If you can make it I encourage you to do so. We will be electing new board members and there will be a vote on new bylaws.
This is an essential meeting and all snowboard parents from all programs are encouraged to attend. If not please vote for the board of directors by proxy found in Igor's email.

Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow.

Camp Cancelled.

Our Killington camp has been cancelled. Due to the recent weather that has reduced the level of open terrain and the forecast for the coming week, I feel that a camp at Killington will not be a benefit to us at this time. We will work to reschedule a camp later in the season.

Just a reminder. We will meet a the Mansfield Base this morning at 8:30. At 11:00am we will head up to the club and finish with some Yoga/Stretch session and continue goal setting.

Due to unfriendly temp's we have a change of plans for Saturday.

This Saturday is the day we have all been waiting for opening day at MMSC. But unfortunately as you all know the weather has not been our friend. The temps have dropped below freezing again (finally) last night, which allowed for snow making to resume. After getting out on the hill today and seeing the condition of the hill, I have made the call that we will not be taking the crew on snow for Saturday. We will however still meet at the club at 9pm till 12pm. We will spend time doing individual goal setting and other team building activities. Our focus will be on flexibility, and core strength. Please have all riders come prepared in athletic type shoes and appropriate clothing to be outside as well as inside.
We will hold an organizational parents meeting from 12-1pm Saturday.

In addition to Saturday's training at MMSC we will still hold our GMFC training session from 6-8.

On Sunday depending on the temps and snow making progress. We will plan to meet at Mt. Mansfield Base Lodge at 8:30 we will ride till 11:00. We will then offer a core strength and stretch session back at MMSC from 12-1. Any help we can get to transport kids to MMSC would be appreciated. Please stay tuned to for any changes to our face book page or the MMSC blog.

November 16th weekly update. OPENING DAY APPROACHES!!!

Photo by Brian Jenkins @ brianjenkinsphotography.blogspot.com

This past Saturday MMSC and Green Mountain Gymnastics debuted the new trampoline set up at GMG's open house. GMG is celebrating the opening of there new location @ 260 Avenue D #30  Williston, VT 05495 and the addition of the new freestyle training center. The MMSC snowboard coaching staff has designed the program that will be used and will play a large roll in the operation of the facility. This facility is planned to open to the public in January of 2012. As for now it is the exclusive indoor training center for MMSC snowboarding. We will continue  our training sessions tonight 11/16 with tumbling and Saturday 11/19 with our trampoline foam pit session.

Wednesday 11/23 is the scheduled opening day for Stowe Mountain. The debut of the new four runner quad is set for 8:00am this Wed. Traditionally opening day can be a bit crazy and the conditions are especially challenging. I do not recommend bringing our young riders out to opening day. However if you do plan on riding opening day please be smart and limit your time to a few runs. There is a long season ahead of us, and opening day energy has been know to get the better of us all. A good hike might be a wonderful way to stay away from opening day crowds and still get on the mountain.

MMSC snowboard Nov. 7 weekend recap and weekly update

Photo by Brian Jenkins @ brianjenkinsphotography.blogspot.com
This past Saturday MMSC began its first session of our new indoor freestyle training program @ Green Mt. Gymnastics. Using foam pits, Trampolines, tumble tracks and spring floors, MMSC coaches work with riders to learn air awareness and body control. Coaches guide each rider through progressions that teach proper front flips; back flips and overall take offs and landings.

This session will continue to evolve over the next 7 weeks. Our facilities are still a work in progress and will expand in the coming weeks.

On Wednesday the 9th we will have all of our riders focus on tumbling and continue to expand there knowledge of body control.

On Sunday this weekend MMSC held it's second rail session of the season @ the Burton factory Jib park. Parents and coaches trucked over 3 tons of snow to make it happen. We had a great turn out and all had a ton of fun. It's a great chance for us to get on snow and begin to dial in tricks before our mountains are even open. Thanks to all of our dedicated parents who helped out.

WCAX channel 3 news stopped by to film us and interview Jamal and some of our kids. The coverage aired on the 5pm news as well as the 11pm news and the 6am news.

Next Saturday is our MMSC Hall of Fame Dinner. Where parents and coaches kick off the season with a semi formal social event. This event is a huge fundraiser for MMEF our scholarship foundation. Also this coming Saturday will be our second session of our GMG freestyle program. This session will be held as an open house, and the time will be moved from 2pm - 4pm due to the HOF dinner.

Hope to see many of you this week.

Nov 3rd weekly update.

Hey Everyone,
This past Wednesday was our 2nd annual impact night at Burton. We had a great turnout and an amazing time was had by all. Thank you to all who came and made our night super successful. And a special thanks to Burton, Bryan Huber and Jeff Boliba for putting it all together

We have a some more exiting news to announce.

MMSC snowboarding is proud to tell you that we will offer for the first time, a 7 week indoor freestyle training session. In partnership with, Green Mountain Gymnastics in Williston on Ave. D, MMSC Snowboarding has built a training program that will allow our riders to train twice a week in the gym on trampolines, foam pits, and a tumble track. We will work on developing air awareness, body control, and proper take off and landing techniques.
This session will begin on Saturday 11/5 from 6pm-8pm and will continue every Wed and Saturday until Dec. 21st.

Wednesday sessions will have a tumbling focus and will be held from 7:15pm-8:30pm. Wednesdays will mainly be coached by some of the best GMG coaches with input from our MMSC coaches.

Saturday will be more freestyle snowboard specific, with the MMSC coaching staff leading the way.

Fees will be as followed,

7 weeks Wed. & Sat. 14 nights for $350

7 weeks just Wed. 7 nights for $150

7 weeks just Saturday 7 nights $225

All athletes must fill out a new waiver at the start of the session.

Due to the new structure to keep things simple for GMG this first session, all payment will be made out to Scott Adam. Once the structure is set in place and GMG is prepared to deal with our program, all payments will be shifted to GMG. This is a brand new program that has just been created with in the past few months. We are the first in Northern Vermont to do a program of this kind, I am very exited to be able to present this exclusively to MMSC for the first time.

Next, this Sunday 11/6 from 12pm-3pm MMSC will hold it's 2nd Burton rail session at the Burton Jib park next to the Skate bowls. A helmet must be worn by all riders and a new waiver must be filled out for this event.

Once again we will be looking for volunteers to help shovel and gather snow. If you have a truck, a trailer, or a shovel to help gather snow, please meet in the Burton parking lot @ 10am.

Our first snow pickup will be in Montpelier, at Central Vermont Memorial Civic Center @ 9am. Anyone able to help with this first pick up please email me.

Last, I would like to tell you all that the calendar on our MMSC website, under snowboarding has been updated. This calendar as of today contains all of our important dates through August 2012, including all purposed summer camps.USASA dates and holiday camps. Please check it out, any changes in our schedule will be updated there.

Thanks once again to all who have been putting in time and dedication to make our program the best it can be.

I hope to see you all this weekend.
